Aspect welcomes children’s workforce initiative
Aspect, the children’s service union will tomorrow welcome new government proposals to strengthen the children’s workforce.
John Chowcat, Aspect general secretary said, “Nothing is more important than our children’s future and nothing affects this more than the skills, experience and commitment of the children’s workforce.
“Professionals in children’s services and education improvement will welcome the new proposals for national level partnership and enhanced prospects for continuing professional development.
“It is important for the full range of voices in the children’s workforce to be heard and for real interprofessional dialogue to develop.
“Aspect has pioneered professional development across a wide range of specialisms in the children’s workforce and remains committed to a fully professionalised service able to fulfil the full potential of a diverse workforce and meet the needs of our children and young people.”
Note to editors 1 Aspect is the only professional association and trade union exclusively representing professionals working in children’s services and educational improvement and has the largest representation of any professional body on the Soulbury Committee.
These professionals play a vital role in shaping and influencing the lives of millions of children and young people. Aspect members include directors and managers of children’s services, early years professionals, advisory headteachers, school improvement and early years advisers, education welfare officers, social care professionals, 14-19 coordinators, heads of Sure Start, Ofsted inspectors, parent partnership staff, specialist foster carers and self-employed consultants. Over the past five years membership has doubled and Aspect now represents over 4,000 professionals working in the field.
2 Aspect general secretary John Chowcat is a member of the Expert Group constituted to work with the government to develop a long term strategy which will further support and develop people who work with children and young people and ensure a world class children’s workforce, providing the highest quality of personalised and integrated services.
