Are all EYPs eligible to join Aspect?
Yes, Aspect is a trade union and professional association for professionals across children’s services. EYPs may work in nurseries or pre-schools, in Children’s centres or their own home, as setting owners, room leaders, childminders or LA advisors.
Aspect recognises and values the huge diversity of those with EYPS and those currently on the various pathways, and firmly believes that the future of EYPS lies in ensuring EYPs themselves have the strongest possible voice in driving that future.

Can I join Aspect as a childminder?
Yes, Aspect EYP membership is available to all EYPs carrying out a professional role supporting children. Indeed, Aspect is keen to welcome professionals from all areas of the early years sector in order to provide the most effective and representative professional voice.

Is Aspect a trade union and is it linked to the TUC?
Yes, Aspect is a trade union, just like many other bodies you may have come across in the past. Aspect members are encouraged to elect local representatives from amongst their own groups and networks, and have access to highly skilled and qualified professional advisors for support with all workplace issues.
Aspect has been affiliated to the TUC for a number of years, attending Conference and other events, and contributing to a range of TUC events – for example Aspect worked with other TUC affiliates in contributing to the Daycare Trust publication “Raising the Bar” in Autumn 2008.

How much does it cost to join Aspect?
Subscription rates depend on salary, but for most EYPs costs less than a pint of beer a week. Not much for contributing to your future career, helping to secure a proper foundation for EYPS into the future, and access to professional advice and support at work as well! For those working less than half-time it is even cheaper.
Full-time students pay a separate rate which is only £15 annually.
