The Association of Professionals in Education and Children's Trusts (Aspect) is the only professional association and trade union exclusively representing professionals in education and children's trusts.
The Association has a rich history, and now represents over 4,000 professionals in the field including advisory headteachers, directors and managers of children’s services, school improvement and early years advisers, education welfare officers, 14-19 coordinators, heads of Sure Start, Ofsted inspectors, parent partnership staff and self-employed consultants.
Aspect members are based throughout the UK, and work across a broad range of sectors serving the interests of all children and young people, including the public, private, faith, voluntary and community sectors.
Milestones for 2006-07 include:
- The establishment of a national children's services network co-chaired by Aspect and the British Association of Social Workers. The network is regularly consulted by the Department for Children, Schools and Families and the Children's Workforce Development Council to discuss ongoing issues regarding the development of the new children's workforce
- Direct participation in key national-level meetings on local government pensions with the Department for Communities and Local Government
- The launch of the first ever national training framework for self-employed consultants working in education and children's services
- Introduction of a work-based professional qualification for educational improvement and children's services professionals, accredited by the largest awarding body in the UK, Edexcel
- Developed a host of new services for our members, including highly competitive professional indemnity cover, an updated online business register and free independent financial advice.
